We have two additional permanent members of crew, Captain Bonzo and his girlfriend Pip. Despite Captain Bonzo being a stuffed dog he competently manages the boat and safely gets us from A to B with only the occasional barking of orders..
The Owners
Alex Helbig and Carla Gregory have been married since August 1999. They met in the Maldives on a small island in south Ari Atoll called Dhidhoofinolhu in 1994. At that time the resort was called Ari Beach, a 'no news, no shoes' island, quite different to the luxury resorts of the Maldives today.
Alex was working in the watersports centre during the high season, (Europe's winter), and in Cannobio in Italy during the summer months.
When Carla went on holiday to Ari Beach and saw a photograph of Alex she knew she had to meet him. She returned at Christmas in 1994 and the rest is history.
We went on to be owners of the watersports centre before returning to the UK in 1999. We married and spent 10 months travelling the world before settling in the UK to build up the funds for our dream.
We became active members of Speedbird Offshore Yacht Club, a British Airways club, where we both qualified as yachtmasters. Carla went on to become Commodore and then Chairman, and Alex a cruising instructor.
Ari Beach has always held a special place in our hearts, hence it seemed a fitting name for our beautiful yacht....our next adventure.
